ABOUT THE GRAFTON STREET OPEN IRISH SESSION

TEST Our open Irish music session has been happening since May of 2019.  We had a bit of a hiatus during the COVID pandemic, but kept in touch via our Facebook page, shared recordings, and met for small backyard sessions when we could.  We started out at the Grafton Street Pub in Hauppauge, then moved to Katie’s of Smithtown in September, 2019.  We added a second monthly session at Buckley’s Irish Pub in Center Moriches just before the pandemic hit.  We suspended pub sessions for more than a year. In 2021 we've been primarily playing at the Ancient Order of Hibernians hall in Mount Sinai and the Westhampton Beach Brewing Company.  We may add more locations. Check
our Facebook page each month to confirm locations, dates and times.
A set of experienced players are present at each session but musicians of ALL levels are welcome.  In the tradition of seisiuns, the focus is on instrumental tunes with some traditional songs mixed in.  We have a set of session guidelines and a list of regular tunes posted at this website. Players are free to call whatever Irish tune they like when it's their turn to lead.  We’re happy to have less experienced musicians and students start and lead sets at their own pace.
